CAMP FOR OUR COMMUNITY. BY OUR COMMUNITY.
Camp CommUnity or CU as we like to call it, is a Wimberley-created, community-led summer program built to give WISD kids the chance to grow and learn in a safe, fun, and inclusive environment. Our one-of-a-kind camp is focused on providing incoming 1st-6th grade students a memorable summer experience. At CU, we believe all children should be afforded the opportunity to succeed at life beyond the classroom— no matter what.
So when school’s out, we kick in to make sure ALL children have access to high-quality, enriching, and FUN programs ranging from after-school classes to summer camp. Wanna know the best part? Each one of our fun programs not only equips students with valuable life, academic, and career skills, it connects them to the world around them and their community. If you don’t believe us, see for yourself!
Camp CommUnity’s driving goals:
To create a child-centered, TEKS complementary curriculum with an emphasis on ELA, Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Social and Emotional Learning to stop academic loss otherwise known as the summer slide.
Make summer learning both tangible and obtainable for families facing financial barriers by providing free camp and free transportation.
Ensure students receive hot, well-balanced, healthy meals daily
Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for students to explore and take safe risks
Expose 1st-6th students to various career options, fields, industries, and technologies that exist or can be created.
Promote and instill a sense of agency by teaching: creative thinking, innovation, critical thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, and other soft skills.
Build multi-generational connections by tapping into the wealth of knowledge in the community and empowering residents to share their talents, interests, and trades with students during assemblies and break-out electives
Camp community
CU is affiliated with Start-Up Kids Club, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that’s on a mission to teach the next generation to become resilient, self-sufficient, and independent students. We believe that by teaching hands-on entrepreneurship, students will become empowered and build crucial life skills to bridge the connection from the classroom to the real world.
Recognizing the desperate need for affordable summer camp in the Wimberley Valley, CampCommUnity was formed.
